Description

50mm Metal Webbing Hooks – Zinc Coated and Designed for Metal Frames

Our 10 pack of 50mm webbing hooks are made from durable zinc-coated steel and are designed to securely anchor elastic or Pirelli-style rubber webbing to metal tubular furniture frames. The hook shape resembles a clothes hanger turned 90 degrees, allowing it to fit neatly into round or square holes on metal frames such as those used in sofa beds, recliners, and automotive-style seating.

Each hook is precision-formed from 2.50mm thick steel and zinc plated for long-lasting corrosion resistance. The overall width is 59.35mm at the widest point, with a 54.23mm slot width for the webbing, a hook depth of 18mm, and 32mm from the top of the hook to the base of the webbing slot — making it the perfect match for standard 50mm-wide elastic webbing.

Two Easy Attachment Options

These webbing hooks can be attached using either of the following methods:

Sewn Option: Feed a short length of 50mm webbing through the hook frame, fold it back, and sew twice through both layers to form a secure loop.

V-Clip Option: Feed the 50mm webbing through the hook frame, fold it back, insert a 50mm webbing V-clip (click here), then clamp it closed using a vice or hammer. This option avoids sewing and offers a strong mechanical hold.

Designed for Metal Frames

These hooks are specifically intended for metal-framed furniture that has round or square holes for webbing attachment points. They are not suitable for timber frames, which typically require slot or staple-style fittings. Commonly used on sofa beds, recliners, modular metal-framed seating, and automotive or caravan seats.

How To

How To

How to Install 50mm Webbing Hooks

Each webbing strap will require two hooks – one at each end. Both hooks must face the same direction so they fit correctly into the frame holes. These hooks are designed for metal-framed furniture such as sofa beds, recliners, and modular or automotive seating, which have round or square holes in the frame. Follow the steps below to measure, prepare, and install your webbing and hooks correctly.

Step 1 – Measure the Span and Determine Webbing Length

  1. Measure the distance between the two opposing hook holes on the metal frame where the webbing will attach. This is the total span.
  2. Reduce this measurement by approximately 5–10% (depending on how firm you want the seat) to allow for proper webbing tension once installed.
  3. Cut your webbing to this adjusted length. Ensure both ends are square and ready for attachment of hooks.

Example: If the frame holes are 500mm apart, cut your webbing to approximately 450–475mm to maintain tension when stretched and fitted.

Step 2 – Attach Hooks to the Webbing

You can attach the hooks to the webbing using either of the two methods below. Make sure both hooks face the same direction before securing.

Method 1 – Sewn Loop Attachment

  1. Feed one end of the 50mm webbing through the hook frame so it wraps around the hook body.
  2. Fold the webbing back on itself to create a double layer approximately 40–50mm long.
  3. Using a heavy-duty sewing machine and strong upholstery thread, sew two straight stitch lines across the doubled section to create a secure loop.
  4. Repeat this process for the opposite end of the webbing, ensuring both hooks face the same direction.

Method 2 – V-Clip Clamp Attachment

  1. Feed the 50mm webbing through the hook frame, then fold it back to create a 50mm double layer.
  2. Place a 50mm webbing V-clip (click here) over the folded webbing so the clip encloses both layers and the flat base of the hook.
  3. Use a vice or hammer to clamp the V-clip tightly closed, locking the webbing and hook together.
  4. Repeat this process for the second hook on the other end, ensuring both hooks face the same way.

Step 3 – Fit the Webbing to the Frame

  1. Insert one hook into the hole on one side of the frame.
  2. Stretch the webbing firmly by hand or using gentle leverage to reach the opposite hole.
  3. Insert the second hook into the opposite hole, ensuring the webbing is taut and the hooks sit securely in position.

Final Checks

  • Confirm both hooks are seated fully in the frame holes and aligned in the same direction.
  • Check the webbing tension by pressing down in the centre – it should feel firm but still slightly flexible.
  • Recheck all straps for even tension before replacing cushions or seat panels.

Compatibility Notes

  • Designed for use with elasticated or Pirelli-style rubber webbing only.
  • Not suitable for timber frames or for jute/hessian webbing.

FAQs

FAQs

How many hooks do I need per seat strap?

Each length of webbing requires two hooks – one on each end. Both hooks must face the same direction so they slot correctly into the metal frame holes.

How do I know how long to cut the webbing?

Measure the distance between the two hook holes in your metal frame and reduce this length by approximately 5–10% to allow for webbing tension once installed. This ensures a firm and supportive seat.

Can I use these hooks on wooden furniture frames?

No. These hooks are designed specifically for metal tube frames that have round or square holes. For timber furniture, use slot-fitting or staple-type webbing clips instead.

Do I have to sew the webbing onto the hook?

No. You can choose between two attachment methods: sewing the webbing into a loop, or using a 50mm webbing V-clip (click here) which clamps the webbing to the hook without sewing. Both methods are strong and reliable.

Are these easy to use for a DIYer?

Yes they are very easy to use and fit with basic tools. See our How To for instructions.

What type of webbing should I use with these hooks?

These hooks are compatible with elasticated or Pirelli-style rubber webbing that is 50mm wide. They are not suitable for jute, hessian, or non-stretch woven webbing types.

Super quick delivery and excellent quality. Exact match of our old sofa webbing and was able to replace with ease (after watching a YouTube video on how much tension needed). Will be purchasing again to do our other sofa.

First time dealing with this company. The replacement part was well priced, does the job perfectly and arrived without fuss in what I would consider to be short time given current delivery issues in general. No hesitation to give this company further business if the need arises.
