Description

eMoMo E50EF Power Recliner Oval Foundation Socket

This genuine eMoMo E50EF power foundation is a replacement input socket used to connect your recliner’s external transformer to the internal electronics. Installed into the rear of the arm or seat frame, it provides a secure and reliable 2 pin OI Hi-Fi connection for power entry. The front facia features a female 2 pin OI connector that accepts both lugged and non-lugged male plugs, making it suitable for the vast majority of modern electric recliner systems.

The foundation plate measures 50mm wide by 33mm deep and requires a 23mm round cut-out in the recliner frame. A 520mm cable tail extends from the rear of the facia and terminates in a male 2 pin OI Hi-Fi plug with retaining lugs. Everything is included for installation, including the two necessary mounting screws.

How to Identify the Correct E50EF Foundation

To confirm compatibility, check the barcode or sticker on your existing foundation socket. If it starts with SE:E50EF or WT:E50EF, this is the correct replacement. The OI Hi-Fi connection style is easy to recognise — one pin is round, and the other is flat, making it distinct from other multi-pin recliner connectors. If you’re still uncertain, contact our support team for assistance and we’ll help identify the correct part from your photos.

Looking for the Opposite Plug Version?

Some recliners use the same oval foundation but with the plugs reversed. If the male OI 2 pin connector is inside the foundation fascia and the female OI connector with retaining clasp is at the cable end, then you need the E50E version instead. We stock the E50E, which is otherwise identical in size, shape, and mounting. See the E50E opposite-plug foundation (click here) if this matches your existing setup.

How To Install the eMoMo E50EF Power Foundation

Replacing the E50EF power foundation is a straightforward DIY repair that most people can complete with just a screwdriver.
Follow the steps below carefully, and if you are unsure at any stage, please contact us for guidance.

Before You Start

  • Unplug from the wall: Always disconnect the recliner from the mains power socket before starting any work.
  • Allow time for power to discharge: Wait a few minutes after unplugging so any stored power in the system can dissipate.
  • Use safe lifting practices: Recliners can be heavy and awkward to move. Get someone to help you, bend at the knees and keep your back straight when tilting or lifting the chair.
  • Take a picture before you start: Use your phone to take clear photos of the existing foundation and cable connections. This makes it easier to refer back during reassembly.
  • Tools required: A Phillips head screwdriver is usually all that is needed. Pliers are optional if you prefer extra grip on the old screws.

Step 1: Access the Existing Power Foundation

  1. Unplug the recliner from the wall socket and move the chair away from the wall to give yourself room to work.
  2. Carefully tip the recliner onto its side or front, using safe lifting practices and assistance if needed, so you can access the rear of the arm or seat frame.
  3. Locate the existing oval power foundation socket on the frame. This is where the external transformer lead plugs into the chair.
  4. Take a clear photo of the existing foundation, the way the cable is routed, and how it is plugged into the chair electronics.

Step 2: Remove the Old Foundation

  1. Disconnect the external transformer lead from the front of the old foundation socket.
  2. Locate the two mounting screws that hold the old foundation in place and remove them with your screwdriver.
  3. Gently pull the old foundation out of the 23 mm round hole in the frame so you can see the cable and rear plug.
  4. Follow the cable to where it connects into the chair electronics and carefully unplug the male 2 pin OI plug.
Refer to your photo if needed to note how it was routed and connected.

Step 3: Prepare and Fit the New E50EF Foundation

  1. Take your new E50EF power foundation and check that the oval facia size and 2 pin OI connectors match your old part.
  2. Route the new cable through the same path as the original cable, avoiding sharp edges and moving parts.
  3. Plug the new male 2 pin OI Hi-Fi connector into the same socket on the recliner electronics where the old plug was removed.
  4. Gently pull any excess slack back towards the frame so the cable sits neatly and does not get pinched by the mechanism.

Step 4: Mount the New Foundation in the Frame

  1. Position the new oval facia so it sits neatly in the existing 23 mm round hole in the frame.
  2. Align the mounting holes in the facia with the screw holes in the frame.
  3. Use the two new screws supplied with the foundation to secure it in place. Tighten the screws firmly, but do not overtighten to avoid damaging the plastic facia.
  4. Check that the front socket sits flush and is stable when you gently press around the edges.

Step 5: Reconnect and Test

  1. Return the recliner carefully to its normal position, using safe lifting practices and help from another person if needed.
  2. Plug the transformer OI lead into the new female 2 pin OI socket. The foundation will accept OI male plugs with or without retaining lugs.
  3. Plug the transformer power cord back into the wall socket.
  4. Operate the recliner to confirm that power is restored and the connection feels secure when you gently wiggle the plug at the foundation.

FAQs

FAQs

How do I know if this E50EF foundation is the correct replacement for my recliner?

The easiest way is to check the barcode or label on your existing foundation. If it starts with SE:E50EF or WT:E50EF, this is the correct part. You can also match the connector type — the E50EF uses the standard 2 pin OI Hi-Fi plug (one round pin, one flat pin). If you’re unsure, send us a photo and we’ll confirm it for you.

Will this socket work with my existing transformer power supply?

Yes. The E50EF uses the industry-standard 2 pin OI female connection, which accepts any OI male plug (with or without retaining lugs). This covers the majority of modern electric recliner power supplies used across popular brands.

Do I need any special tools or experience to install this?

No. Installation is DIY-friendly and requires only a Phillips head screwdriver. Just unplug the recliner, remove the old foundation, route the new cable, and secure the facia using the supplied screws. Our step-by-step instructions make the process quick and simple.

What part of the recliner does this install into?

The E50EF foundation is typically mounted into the rear of the arm frame or under the seat base. It fits through a 23mm round hole in the recliner’s wooden frame, with the oval facia sitting flush on the outside.

Can I replace this part myself safely?

Absolutely. Just unplug your recliner before starting, take a photo of the cable connections for reference, and follow our step-by-step guide. Always lift or tilt the chair using safe lifting techniques — bend your knees and keep your back straight.

The product is the same as the original. Easy to install and great fast service from Sofa Rehab. The coiled plastic on the original part was disintegrating exposing the wires and now with the new control part the chair is as good as new!!

Just what I needed. My local La-Z-Boy store (where I bought my sofa) apparently doesn't sell extension leads but we're happy to sell me some internal power source for $150 or something. Thankfully, Sofa Rehab had this which was all l needed and they shipped it so quickly!
