How to Install the Kaidi KDYJT018-182 Actuator
Replacing your recliner actuator is a straightforward DIY job that most people can complete in under 15 minutes with only basic tools. Follow these steps carefully and always remember to work safely.
- Unplug the recliner from the power supply.
Always disconnect the transformer from the wall socket before starting any repair to avoid electric shock. - Tip the recliner onto its side.
Practise safe lifting techniques and ask for assistance if required. Recliners can be heavy and awkward to handle. - Take a picture before removing the old actuator.
Use your phone to capture how the existing actuator is connected, including plug locations and fixing points. This will help you reconnect everything correctly. - Remove the retaining R-clips and actuator rods.
Use pliers if necessary. Set aside the rods and clips if they are being reused, as new ones are not included with this actuator. - Disconnect the cables.
Unplug the 2-pin OI power lead from the transformer extension and the 5-pin DIN switch plug from the controller. Retain the cables if they are to be reused. - Install the new actuator in position.
Line up the mounting holes and insert the actuator rods, securing them with the R-clips. Ensure the actuator is firmly fixed in place. - Reconnect the plugs.
Plug the 4500mm 2-pin OI power lead into your transformer cable and the 420mm 5-pin DIN plug into the switch connection. Confirm they are fully seated and secure. - Test the recliner function.
Stand the recliner back upright, plug it into the mains power, and operate the handset or switch. Check that the movement is smooth and that the actuator extends and retracts correctly.
Tip: If the actuator does not move when tested, double-check the plugs are fully inserted and that the transformer is supplying power.

FAQs
FAQs
How do I know if this actuator is the right replacement for my recliner?
Check the model number printed on the label of your existing actuator – it should read KDYJT018-182. Also confirm the closed length (500mm), stroke (345mm), and plug types match. If you’re unsure, contact us and we’ll help you confirm compatibility.
Does the actuator come with mounting rods and R-clips?
No, the actuator is supplied on its own. You will need to reuse the original actuator rods and R-clips from your recliner mechanism, or source replacements separately if yours are missing or damaged.
Is this actuator suitable for dual-motor recliner systems?
No, this is a single actuator model only. It will not work in dual-motor recliners that require synchronised actuators. Always replace like-for-like with the correct model.
How long are the power and switch cables?
The power lead has a male 2-pin OI plug and is 4500mm long. The switch lead has a female 5-pin DIN plug with retaining clasp and is 420mm long. These lengths are designed for standard recliner chair installations.
Can I install this actuator myself?
Yes, installation is DIY-friendly. You’ll need only basic tools such as a screwdriver and pliers. Always remember to unplug the chair before starting, take a photo of the original setup for reference, and use safe lifting techniques when moving your recliner.
