Also Available in a 160mm Size
We’ve got you covered with both 180mm and 160mm standard lengths available at Sofa Rehab. The 160mm length version (click here) features the same durable metal design but suits mechanisms requiring the shorter length spring. All measurements are taken when the spring is in the closed position:

How To Tutorial
Replacing your recliner’s footrest release spring is a simple DIY task. Follow these steps to identify, remove, and install the new spring.
Step 1: Identify & Remove the Broken Spring
- Locate the Spring: Find the footrest release spring beneath the recliner seat, attached to hooks on the mechanism.
- Inspect & Measure: Check for breaks or wear. Measure the spring’s total length (closed position)—typically 160mm or 180mm.
- Remove the Spring: Use pliers to unhook the spring from both ends carefully. Take photos of its placement for reference.
Step 2: Order the Replacement Spring
- Match the Size: Use your measurements to order the correct size spring (160mm or 180mm) from Sofa Rehab.
- Consult the Guide: Refer to the Footrest Release Spring Measuring Guide for additional help.
Step 3: Install the New Spring
- Prepare the Recliner: Tilt the recliner back for easy access to the mechanism.
- Attach One Hook: Use pliers to secure one end of the spring to the first attachment point.
- Stretch & Secure: Pull the other end into place and hook it securely.
Step 4: Test the Footrest
- Restore Upright Position: Set the recliner upright and test the footrest by opening and closing it.
- Check Spring Performance: Ensure the spring is taut and the footrest operates smoothly.
