Small Handle & Adjustable Cable Set

Small oval handles can use either a 3.5mm or 6mm cable barrel, which normally means removing the handle and checking which barrel size before ordering a new cable. This complete set is the right repair when the handle has snapped, cracked or come loose, or when it pulls without releasing the footrest. A loose-feeling handle, frayed cable, detached barrel or needing to pull unusually hard are common signs of cable failure.

Most recliner cables are sold by the exposed length, meaning the section of wire between the outer sheath and the hook that connects to the mechanism. Standard cables require this measurement to be matched before ordering. Once fitted, fine tune the tension until the footrest releases cleanly and latches closed, then lock the setting with the alloy collar and nut. This is a practical DIY repair with a Phillips head screwdriver, long nose pliers and our step-by-step guide. Since handle and cable are supplied as a matched set, there is no barrel size to check. Remove the old handle and cable, secure the new cable into its handle with the retaining clip, connect it underneath, then set and lock the tension before reusing your original screws.
