Description
Universal 543 mm Electric Recliner Drive Shaft & Brace Kit for Electric Recliner Mechanisms
Restore smooth, even motion to your powered chair or lounge with this all-in-one replacement set. The 543mm × 12.7mm steel drive rod couples the left and right side frames, while the 25mm × 25mm right-angle brace (400mm long) stops mid-span flex. Pre-cut holes line up with industry-standard drive-link brackets and mechanism swing arms, so the kit bolts straight in—no drilling, no guesswork.
Genuine Leggett & Platt Quality – Fits RMT and More
Manufactured by Leggett & Platt yet sized to suit the common RMT pattern, this set uses tempered steel and factory-accurate hole spacing for reliable, squeak-free operation. Buying genuine parts means the diameter, hardness and bolt alignment are spot on every time.

Step-by-Step Installation Guide – Drive Shaft & Brace Kit 5331
- Unplug and Clear the Area
Switch off the chair at the wall, disconnect the transformer and move any loose cushions so you have unobstructed space to work. - Tip the Recliner Safely
With a helper, bend your knees, keep your back straight and tilt the recliner forward onto its arms or front edge. Place a blanket under the frame to prevent scuffs. - Photograph Before You Touch Anything
Take clear photos of the existing shaft, brace, swing-arm positions and bolt locations. These images will help you re-assemble everything in perfect alignment. - Remove the Old Shaft & Brace
Using a socket ratchet, undo the eight bolts that hold the shaft, brace and swing arms together. Once all eight bolts are out, lift away the old brace and slide the shaft clear of the mechanism. - Position the New Shaft First
Slide the new 543 mm × 12.7 mm rod through the mechanism, making sure the swing arms are in the same orientation as your photos. Insert and tighten the two 32 mm self-tapping bolts to lock the swing arms onto the shaft. - Install the Brace
Line up the six inner holes of the 25 mm × 25 mm brace with the matching holes in the shaft and drive-link brackets.
• Fit the two outer 32 mm bolts through the brace and drive shaft.
• Fit the four remaining 42 mm bolts through the brace into the shaft/drive-link bracket assembly.
Tighten all six bolts firmly so the brace, shaft and brackets form one rigid unit. - Verify Alignment
Rotate the shaft by hand; it should turn freely without binding. Re-check bolt tightness. - Return the Recliner Upright
Using the same safe-lifting posture, tilt the chair back onto its feet with your helper. - Reconnect Power & Test
Plug the transformer back in and run the recliner through a full open/close cycle. Both sides should move together smoothly. If anything looks out of sync, refer to your photos and adjust before final use.
Tip – Keep the reference photos filed away for future maintenance or additional repairs.

FAQs
FAQs
Will the 5331 kit fit my recliner?
Measure the old cross-tube first: if it’s roughly 543mm long and 12.7 mm (½″) in diameter with two flats at each end, this kit will fit. It’s compatible with Leggett & Platt, RMT and most mechanisms that share those specs.
Do I need to buy anything else?
The kit includes the shaft, brace and all eight self-tapping bolts. The only extras you might need are replacement drive-link brackets if your originals are worn or missing (sold separately).
What if my existing shaft is a different length?
Order the matching length instead—our catalogue also lists 746 mm shafts. Using the wrong size will throw the mechanism out of alignment.
Can I swap this in myself?
Yes. A socket ratchet and basic safe-lifting technique are all that’s required. Follow our step-by-step guide and use the photos you take before dismantling as a reference.
The holes in my frame don’t line up—what now?
Double-check the brace orientation and compare with your reference photos. The outer holes must align with the swing-arm tabs; if they don’t, the brace is likely flipped or the swing arms have rotated out of position. Realign, re-seat the shaft, then tighten the bolts.
