How To Replace Your Okin PW.30.18.011 Transformer

Replacing your Okin Refined article number PW.30.18.011 (model DOT-B-290018A) transformer is a quick do it yourself job. You only need basic hand tools and a few minutes of your time. Follow the steps below to safely remove your old power supply and install the new one.

Before You Start

• Unplug the chair from the wall power outlet.
• Make sure the chair is in a safe and stable position.
• Have a Phillips head screwdriver handy if your old transformer is screwed to the frame.
• Optional: Have 2 × 9V batteries ready if you want to use the emergency backup feature. Batteries are not supplied and can be purchased from hardware stores or supermarkets.

Step 1: Locate the Existing Transformer

1. Follow the power cord from the wall socket to the furniture. The transformer is usually positioned under or behind the recliner or lift chair.
2. Look for a rectangular power brick with a figure 8 mains input and a 2 pin OI lead going to the chair.
3. If the transformer is screwed to the frame, note the fixing points so you can mount the new unit in the same place.

Step 2: Disconnect Power Cables

1. Unplug the figure 8 mains lead from the old transformer.
2. Unclip the 2 pin OI plug from the chair harness. The plug has retaining clips, so gently press the tabs and pull the plug straight out.
3. Remove any cable ties or clips that hold the old transformer in place.
4. If the transformer is screwed to the frame, remove the mounting screws and lift the unit out.

Step 3: Fit the New Okin PW.30.18.011 / DOT-B-290018A Transformer

1. Position the new transformer in the same area as the old unit, with the figure 8 socket facing the mains lead and the OI output lead facing the furniture harness.
2. If you want to secure it to the frame, align the mounting plates at each end with suitable fixing points and screw it down using appropriate screws.
3. Connect the fixed 2 pin OI plug from the transformer to the matching socket on the chair. Push firmly until the retaining clips click into place.
4. Plug the figure 8 mains lead into the transformer input socket.

Step 4: Optional Emergency Battery Backup Setup

The PW.30.18.011 / DOT-B-290018A transformer has an internal compartment for 2 × 9V batteries used for emergency lowering only. The chair must always be plugged into mains power for normal operation. The batteries are not intended as a stand alone power source.

1. Ensure the transformer is not plugged into the wall while you fit the batteries.
2. Slide off the battery cover on the side of the transformer to reveal the two 9V battery slots.
3. Insert 2 × fresh 9V batteries, matching the polarity markings inside the compartment.
4. Replace the battery cover securely.
5. Remember that the battery backup is designed to lower the chair in an emergency power cut only, not for regular everyday use.

Step 5: Power On and Test

1. Plug the figure 8 mains lead back into the wall outlet and switch the power on.
2. Check that the green LED on top of the transformer is illuminated. This confirms that mains power is present and the unit is operating correctly.
3. Operate the chair controls to raise and lower the recliner or lift chair. The movement should be smooth and quiet.

Safety Tips and Troubleshooting

• Always disconnect the chair from the wall socket before working on any electrical parts.
• Do not use damaged cables or plugs. If your figure 8 mains lead or OI extension lead is cut or crushed, replace these parts as well.
• If the green LED does not light up, double check the wall socket, mains lead, and plug connections.

• Remember that the 9V batteries are a backup only and will usually provide enough power to lower the chair once or a few times during a power outage.
