How To

How To

Step-by-Step Installation Guide

Important: This module is a plug-and-play retrofit. Because you are
only plugging into a standard wall outlet, a licensed electrician is generally
not required. If unsure, seek professional advice.

  1. Unplug & Prepare
Switch the recliner or lounge off at the wall and unplug its transformer.
Clear a work area large enough to tip the furniture without obstruction.
Lay a moving blanket or thick towel on the floor to protect upholstery.
  2. Safe Lifting & Access
Recruit a helper—powered lounges can exceed 70 kg. Lift with your legs,
keep the load close, and avoid twisting.
Tip the furniture onto its back or
side so the console top is horizontal and easy to reach.
  3. Take “Before” Photos
    In good light, photograph
    • the existing charging hub or blank plate
    • all screws / spring clips underneath
    • cable routing and strain-relief points
These images make re-assembly and troubleshooting much easier.
  4. Remove the Old Unit / Blank
Open the console lid and locate the four corner screws (or spring latches).
Support the unit with one hand while removing fasteners with the other.
Slide the module upward and disconnect any plugs. Free the captive lead
    from cable ties or clips.
  5. Confirm Cut-Out Size
    Measure the aperture—it must be 220 mm × 110 mm (±2 mm).
    • If smaller, carefully enlarge with a jigsaw.
    • If larger, screw a timber spacer frame so the new unit is fully supported.
  6. Seat the New Charger
Lower the MLCZ005-13 into the hole; its bezel (265 mm × 120 mm) should sit
flush. Engage the spring clips or re-use the four screws—snug, not overtight.
  7. Route the Power Lead
Feed the 1.4 m mains cord through the console cavity, following the
original path. Keep clear of sharp edges and moving mechanism arms.
Secure with the supplied clip or a zip-tie to prevent tug-strain.
  8. Restore Power & Test
Stand the lounge upright using the same safe-lifting technique.
Plug the charger’s lead into a wall socket (or recliner power strip) and
reconnect the recliner transformer. Open the lid, test both 240 V sockets
with a lamp and charge a phone from each USB port.
  9. Final Checks
Ensure the lid closes flush, wiring is tidy and no cables are pinched
beneath the console. Store removed screws and your “before” photos for
    future reference.

Total time ≈ 15 minutes with two people. Enjoy convenient charging
right at your seat and the satisfaction of a safe DIY upgrade. If any step is
unclear, send us your photos—our support team is ready to help.

FAQs

FAQs

Will the MLCZ005-13 fit the cut-out already in my lounge console?

Measure the opening after you remove the old unit or blank plate. If it is ≈ 220 mm × 110 mm (give or take 2 mm) the charger will drop straight in and the 265 mm × 120 mm bezel will sit flush. A larger cut-out can be packed with a timber frame; a smaller one must be carefully enlarged.

Does this replace the 29 V transformer that powers my recliner motors?

No. This module only provides household AC outlets plus 5 V USB charging for phones, tablets, laptops, lamps, etc. Your recliner’s motors still need their separate 29 V power supply. Both can share the same wall socket via a power board if required.

How powerful are the USB ports—will they fast-charge my phone?

Each USB-A port delivers 5 V DC, up to 2 A shared (10 W max). That is fast enough for most phones, AirPods and controllers, but it is not a high-voltage Quick-Charge or USB-C PD port. For the fastest charging, plug your device’s own wall charger into one of the 240 V sockets.

Do I need an electrician or special tools to install it?

No electrician is needed because you’re not altering fixed wiring—just plugging into an ordinary 3-pin outlet. You’ll need only a Phillips screwdriver to remove the old module and tighten the four retaining screws (or release/engage spring clips). If you must enlarge the hole, a jigsaw and eye/ear protection are recommended.

Which sofa brands use this charger, and can I retrofit it into others?

The MLCZ005 family is factory-fitted in many Synargy Smart Comfort, Amart, and Harvey Norman theatre lounges. Because the unit simply needs the correct cut-out and a nearby power point, it can be retro-fitted to almost any recliner console, desk or RV cabinetry that meets the size requirement.

Simple fast easy, what an awesome find Sofa Rehab was. Our two seater recliner just stopped working and we where thinking we had to replace it but thanks to Sofa Rehab it was just a $45 part and it's back up and running.

The product is the same as the original. Easy to install and great fast service from Sofa Rehab. The coiled plastic on the original part was disintegrating exposing the wires and now with the new control part the chair is as good as new!!

Needed an extension cable for my electric La Z Boy sofa. The local La Z Boy store doesn’t sell them. Thankfully, these guys do and they shipped it very quickly. Awesome!
