Description
Universal 4341 Manual Recliner Side Sissor Frames – Pair
Replace bent or cracked plates with this genuine Leggett & Platt 4341 side-frame set. Supplied as one left-hand and one right-hand frame, each unit is factory riveted, fitted with Delrin™ bushings and ready to bolt to your timber seat box. The classic 4341 geometry lets your recliner move fully while sitting close to the wall, and its heavy-gauge construction is strength-rated to 400 lbs total chair + user.
What “Metal-to-Floor” Really Means on a 4341 Mechanism
In the 4341 design the steel plates become the load-bearing legs, but the chair still sits on its own glides, castors or timber feet—no bare metal touches your flooring. The kit is therefore not suitable for rocker bases or swivel rings; only for recliners that already stand on four feet or wheels.
What You Get & What You Re-Use
You receive two bare 4341 side frames:
- No handle or trigger lever (reuse or see our release sets (click here)) Accepts the 145mm exposed cable.
- No drive tube, release springs, bolts or glide feet (all sold separately).
- Dash codes (e.g. 4341-3, 4341-5, 4341-6) remain interchangeable—simply match the stamp on your old plate.
Quality Spares & Support from Sofa Rehab
We stock Australia’s widest range of recliner parts and back every order with real phone, email and chat support. Need lockdown springs, drive tubes or release cables? Browse our catalogue or ask for help. Feel proud, fix it yourself, and keep your favourite chair reclining for years to come!
Save Time & Money and Do it Yourself!
Replacing only the damaged 4341 side frames (rather than the entire mechanism or the whole chair) slashes both labour and parts costs. All you need is a 13 mm socket, pliers, a screwdriver and about an hour of free time. There is no wiring to disconnect, no upholstery to strip and no special jigs to set up—just unbolt the old plates, slide the new ones into position, refit your drive tube and springs, then tighten the original screws and bolts.
Because the new frames ship as a compact pair rather than a full mechanism, freight is cheaper and you avoid the long lead-times often quoted for complete assemblies. We dispatch daily from our Brisbane warehouse so you can get your chair back in service within days, not weeks. Add in the call-out fee you won’t be paying to a technician and the savings quickly stack up—money stays in your pocket and your favourite recliner stays out of landfill.

Step-by-Step Installation Guide
For Leggett & Platt 4341 close-to-wall manual recliner side frames – supplied as 1 × left-hand (LHO) and 1 × right-hand (RHO) plate.
Tools & Prep
- 13 mm socket & screwdriver
- Pliers for springs
- Camera or phone to photograph the original layout
- Clean blanket / cardboard to protect upholstery and flooring
- Helpful second person for safe lifting
Safety First – Safe-Lifting Practices
Lift with your legs (not your back), keep the load close to your body, and ask a second person to help invert and right the chair. Remove cushions to reduce weight.
- Prepare the Work Area
Clear at least 2 m × 2 m of floor space and lay down protection for the chair and floor. - Flip the Recliner Upside-Down
With two people, grip solid frame points, keep backs straight, and invert the chair onto its arms. Take a before photo of the mechanism layout for reference. - Disconnect Release Hardware
Unclip the trigger lever, outside handle or D-pulley cable from the old side frames. Keep all parts for re-use. - Remove the Damaged 4341 Plates
- Using the 13 mm socket, undo the screws or coach bolts that secure each plate to the timber seat box.
- Loosen hex bolts and slide out the drive tube.
- Unhook lock-down, coil or aid springs (wear safety glasses).
- Lift the damaged plate away and set aside.
- Install the New 4341 Side Frames
- Identify LHO and RHO plates (handing is taken as you sit in the chair).
- Re-insert the drive tube and secure with hex bolts.
- Align screw holes with the seat-box pattern and finger-start the screws or coach bolts.
- Torque bolts evenly to ≈ 18 N·m.
- Re-attach all springs to their original holes (check your photo).
- Reconnect Release Mechanism
Clip the handle or cable back into the new 4341 plate’s mount and confirm full travel. - Function Check (Upside-Down)
Operate the release to ensure smooth motion and positive lock in the closed position. Verify all pivots move freely on their Delrin™ bushes. - Return Chair Upright
With two people, lift the chair back onto its feet, maintaining safe-lifting posture. - Final Test & Positioning
Place the recliner about 100 mm from the wall and cycle the footrest several times to confirm the close-to-wall action and stability.

FAQs
FAQs
Will these side frames fit my chair?
If your current plates are stamped “4341-*” (e.g., 4341-3, 4341-5 or 4341-6) they’re a direct match. They also drop into many close-to-wall recliners built by RMT and other OEM factories that copy the 4341 bolt pattern. Still unsure? Snap a clear photo of the underside and send it to us—we’ll confirm for you.
What comes in the box and what do I need to reuse?
You receive one left-hand (LHO) and one right-hand (RHO) bare side frame—fully riveted with Delrin™ bushes. You’ll reuse your chair’s drive tube, springs, bolts, feet/castors and release handle or cable. All of those parts are also available separately if you need them.
Do I need any special tools or skills to install them?
No special tools—just a 13 mm socket, a screwdriver and basic DIY confidence. Two people make lifting safer. Most customers complete the swap in under an hour following our step-by-step guide.
Are these suitable for electric recliners?
No—these 4341 frames are for manual chairs only (trigger lever, outside handle or parachute pull). For motorised versions choose our Leggett & Platt 5331 power close-to-wall mechanism instead.
How close to the wall can my chair sit after replacement?
When the frames are fitted to their matching timber seat box the recliner can fully open with roughly 100 mm clearance, so you don’t have to drag the chair far from the wall—perfect for tight living spaces.
