Description
Dewert Duomat 8 + 2 CARE Twin-Drive Actuator – Model 71186
A genuine Dewert double-motor unit that combines two powerful 4500 N drives and an onboard 100-240 V switch-mode power supply in one compact housing. The “8 + 2” version includes two extra output sockets for auxiliary actuators (leg-lift, hi/lo, massage, etc.), so the same actuator can run up to four bed functions from a single handset. Designed for profiling, nursing-care and hospital beds that use the 581 mm centre-to-centre axle spacing of the Duomat series.
All-in-One Power & Smooth, Quiet Motion
- Integrated SMPS: no external transformer brick—just plug the IEC lead directly into the actuator’s mains inlet.
- Medical-grade safety: CARE edition complies with IEC 60601-1, Class II double insulation and IPX4 splash protection for wipe-down cleaning.
- Strong but gentle: up to 4500 N per side with low-noise screw drives for smooth head and knee articulation, even under bariatric loads.
- Smart protection: built-in thermal sensors and current-cut-out stop overload damage and extend service life.
- Universal voltage: 100–240 V input lets you replace units in any country you can ship to—perfect for international customers.

Step-by-Step Installation Guide
Safety First: Disconnect the bed from mains power before you start, clear any bedding, and enlist a second person if possible – the actuator weighs about 5 kg and the mattress platform can drop suddenly once the pins are removed.
- Set the Bed Flat & Take a Photo
• Use the handset to lower back and knee sections to the flat position.
• Before disconnecting any cables, take a clear photo of every plug and socket – this “wiring snapshot” is the best reference when you reconnect the new unit. - Unplug & De-energise
• Unplug the IEC mains lead from the wall outlet.
• Wait 60 seconds for the internal capacitors to discharge.
• If fitted, remove the 9 V emergency battery. - Disconnect Handset & Accessory Leads
• Press the latch tab on the 13-pin DIN handset plug and pull straight out.
• Remove any auxiliary actuator or light leads from the two “extra drive” sockets.
• Unclip the mains IEC lead from the actuator body. - Support the Mattress Platform
• Have a partner hold the platform or prop it with a timber block so weight is not resting on the actuator.
• Wear gloves and keep fingers clear of linkage points. - Remove Axle covers
• Using circlip pliers (or a small flat screwdriver), remove the red clipsboth mounting axles covers.
• Slide the two axles or bolts out and keep them safe – you will reuse them. - Lift Out the Old Actuator
• With the platform still supported, slide the Duomat out of the brackets.
• Note the orientation of the handset socket and mains inlet – the new unit installs the same way. - Prepare the New Unit
• Compare strokes and bush sizes; transfer any Ø 34 mm adaptors if required.
• Make sure the new actuator is fully retracted (motors flush with housing). - Install & Secure
• Slide the new Duomat into the brackets, aligning the 581 mm axle gap.
• Re-insert the axles covers and refit red clips firmly. - Reconnect Cables
• Plug in the mains IEC lead, handset DIN plug, and any auxiliary actuators exactly as per your reference photo.
• Attach a fresh 9 V battery for emergency lowering if required. - Power-On & Test
• Restore mains power.
• Run the back and knee sections through a full cycle with no mattress load, listening for smooth motion.
• Replace bedding and perform a second full test under normal use. - Dispose Responsibly

FAQs
FAQs
Is this a genuine part?
Yes, this is a genuine Dewert/Okin, a Phoenix Mecano brand.
How do I know this Duomat 8 + 2 (art. no. 71186) will fit my bed?
Check three things: (a) the rating label on your old actuator should read “Duomat 8 CARE” or “8 + 2 CARE” with article 71186 (sometimes printed as 071186); (b) the axle-to-axle centre gap must be ≈ 581 mm; (c) your handset lead uses a 5-pin round DIN plug that mates with the socket moulded into the drive. If any of those differ, email us a photo and we’ll identify the correct unit.
Does it need a separate transformer or control box?
No. The 8 + 2 CARE has its own 100–240 V switch-mode power supply inside the housing. You simply reconnect the IEC mains lead and the handset; no external “black brick” or extra control box is required.
What comes in the box and what else might I need?
Included is the genuine Dewert Duomat 8 + 2 CARE actuator with plug protection cover and screws only. Re-use your existing handset, mains lead and any auxiliary actuators. If your old plugs or cables are damaged you can add replacements from our Electric Bed Spare Parts category.
Can I add extra functions such as leg-lift or bed-light?
Yes. The “8 + 2” design gives you two spare drive ports on the actuator body. These accept Dewert single actuators or LED reading-light leads, letting you expand to up to four powered functions without changing handsets (provided your handset has matching buttons).
Is this a DIY-friendly job? What tools and time should I allow?
Absolutely. Remove the two axle pins (circlip pliers or screwdriver), unplug the handset and IEC lead, slide the old unit out, slide the new one in and re-pin—typically 10 minutes. No electrical skills, programming or voltage setting is required; everything is plug-and-play.
