Genuine La‑Z‑Boy front support shaft rod – part 12000727‑02. This 605 mm mild‑steel tube spans the very front of the recliner mechanism; each leg‑rest extension arm and seat slides connects directly to it, keeping both sides square as the foot‑rest moves. Replace the bar if worn or snaps when a failed nylon snap‑bearing lets the extension bracket saw through the steel. 605 mm Front Support Tube for Wide Recliners. Designed for seats measuring roughly 580 mm between the inside arms, this longer 12000727‑02 rod supersedes earlier “‑02” codes and re‑uses the factory shoulder bolts and snap‑bearings. Replace worn bearings at the same time for a truly lasting repair. Need the Drive Rod Instead? Description
605 mm Front Support Shaft Rod for Wide La‑Z‑Boy Recliners
This genuine La‑Z‑Boy front support tube (part 12000727‑02) spans 605 mm across the very front of the mechanism. The mild‑steel round shaft keeps both sides of the foot‑rest perfectly in line as it opens and closes. A failed nylon snap‑bearing can let the extension arm cut through the tube—causing crooked latching or a sudden break—so replacing the rod (and snaps) restores smooth, level operation on wider La‑Z‑Boy rocker, wall‑hugger and power models.
Is This the Right Length for Your Chair?
To confirm the correct length, tip the recliner onto its side and measure the gap between the inner faces of the two arm‑frame channels; if that gap is about 580 mm, your chair uses the 605 mm front support tube (part 12000727‑02)—this item. If the measurement differs, or you’re not confident in your reading, simply snap a quick photo and send it to us via chat or email and one of our technicians will verify the right replacement for you.

Step‑by‑Step Guide – Replacing the La‑Z‑Boy Front Support Tube
Read right through first, gather everything you need, and enlist a helper if the chair is heavy. Work methodically and take photos as you go so re‑assembly is a breeze.
1. Prepare the Workspace
- Clear the floor and lay down a dust sheet (old towel or drop cloth) to catch bolts and protect the upholstery.
- Unplug any power pack and remove loose cushions.
- Tip the recliner forward onto its arms so the underside mechanism faces you.
2. Safe‑Lifting Techniques
- Bend your knees, keep your back straight and lift with your legs.
- Team‑lift anything over ≈ 25 kg.
- Wear gloves to avoid sharp‑edge nicks and eye protection around staples or springs.
3. Locate the Steel Tube at the Front of the Chair
- Identify the steel support tube that runs straight across the very front of the mechanism; each leg‑rest extension arm is bolted to its ends.
4. Remove the Seat Box (8 Screws/Bolts)
- Using a 5/16″ socket or Torx T‑25 driver, remove the four bolts on each side (total of eight) that secure the seat box to the arm frames.
- Lift the seat box up and forward; set it carefully on the dust sheet.
5. Open the Arm Carcass for Rear Access
- At the front corner of each arm, release or un‑staple the black dust cover and the outside arm cover.
- Fold back a small section of upholstery to expose the rear Torx bolt holding the eye‑pin and support tube.
6. Release the Toggle‑Link Sub‑Assembly Extension Spring (If Fitted)
- Unhook the extension spring from the toggle‑link sub‑assembly to free the mechanism for disassembly.
7. Remove the Leg‑Rest Shoulder Bolts
- Using a 13 mm (½″) socket or spanner, undo the shoulder bolt on the right‑hand leg‑rest extension arm; catch the washer.
- Repeat on the left‑hand side, supporting each arm as the bolt comes free.
8. Remove Eye Pins and Rear Torx Bolts
- Inside the arm carcass, remove the rear Torx T‑30 bolt and pull out the eye‑pin on one side.
- Repeat on the opposite side so both eye pins are free.
9. Remove the Support Tube
- Slide the worn support tube sideways out of the arm frame, catching the seat‑slide brackets as they come free.
- Lay out the slides in order, noting their orientation and hole positions so nothing gets mixed up.
10. Install the New Support Tube
- Press new nylon snap‑bearings onto each end of the tube; apply a thin smear of white grease around the snaps.
- Feed the tube through the spacing‑link bar and re‑fit the seat slides in the same orientation as removed.
- Centre the tube so equal lengths sit inside both arm frames.
11. Re‑assemble the Mechanism
- Re‑insert the leg‑rest shoulder bolts and bushings; torque snugly.
- Hook the toggle‑link sub‑assembly extension spring back into place.
- Re‑install both eye pins and tighten the rear Torx bolts firmly.
12. Close the Upholstery
- Re‑staple the outside arm fabric and any black dust cover neatly back into position.
13. Tip the Chair Back Over
- With help, return the recliner to its normal upright position.
14. Test the Repair
- Manually extend and retract the foot‑rest; check for smooth, level movement and positive latching.
- Confirm all tools are removed and the work area is clear—job done!

FAQs
FAQs
How can I tell if my La‑Z‑Boy needs a new support tube?
1, Foot‑rest sits crooked or won’t latch shut – When the tube wears through or snaps, one leg‑rest arm lags behind the other. The foot‑rest looks skewed, pops back open, or refuses to lock home.
2, Noticeable “droop” under weight – Sit down and rest your legs on the foot‑rest; if one side drops lower or flexes more than the other, the tube has likely thinned at one end.
3, Free play at the leg‑rest arms – With the chair tipped onto its back, grab each leg‑rest extension arm and wiggle it side‑to‑side. Any wobble means the tube’s bolt holes have elongated or the steel has started to shear.
4, Visible wear, slotting, or a clean break – Remove the shoulder bolts and slide the tube out. Look for half‑moon grooves cut by the extension arm, thinning walls, or a complete snap near the ends.
5, Missing or cracked nylon snap‑bearing – If the black nylon “snap” that centres the tube inside the arm bracket has split, the bare metal-on‑metal contact quickly saws through the mild‑steel tube. A damaged or absent snap is a red flag that the rod isn’t far behind.
My old rod snapped because the nylon snap‑bearing failed—can I buy those too?
Absolutely. We recommend replacing both nylon snap‑bearings whenever you install a new tube; it prevents future wear and squeaks. You’ll find them listed as “La Z Boy Mechanism Plastic Snap” in our La‑Z‑Boy spares catalogue, and they simply click into the arm bracket.
Can I install these myself, or do I need a technician?
Installation is a safe DIY task that typically takes 30 minutes. See our comprehensive step by step guides.
Will this tube work on power recliners as well as manual models?
Yes. The front support tube is identical on manual, rocker, wall‑hugger and power‑actuated La‑Z‑Boy chairs that use the “wide‑seat” mechanism. The key is matching the seat width, not the motor type.
Are these genuine La-Z-Boy parts?
Yes, these are genuine OEM La-Z-Boy parts, not aftermarket copies. Manufactured to original specifications for the perfect fit and long-lasting performance.
