Recommended Replacement For OKE Plastic Zig Zag Spring Clips
This OKE plastic upholstery zig zag spring clip strip is a legacy spring clip option previously used to secure zig zag, no sag, sinuous and serpentine springs to timber furniture frames. It was supplied as a continuous connected strip of clips, rather than as separate individual spring clips.
For most current repairs, we now recommend our individual metal and plastic upholstery zig zag spring clips as the preferred replacement option. These clips are easier to position where they are needed and are better suited to replacing broken spring clips one at a time on sofas, couches, recliners, armchairs and lounge frames.

Old OKE Clip Strip Compared With The Current Replacement Clips
The original OKE plastic clip strip was made as a connected length of plastic spring clips. When purchasing a 10 pack, 20 pack, 30 pack or 40 pack, the clips were supplied as one continuous connected length.
Our current recommended spring clips are different in format. They are supplied as individual clips in a 10 pack, so you can position each clip separately on the furniture frame. This makes them more practical for many repairs where only one or a few clips have broken, or where you need to replace clips in specific positions rather than fit a complete connected strip.
The replacement clips may look different to the old OKE plastic strip, but they are used for the same general repair task: securing upholstery zig zag springs to the furniture frame.
Used For Sofa, Couch, Recliner And Armchair Spring Repairs
Zig zag springs are also commonly called no sag springs, sinuous springs or serpentine springs. These springs are often used in sofa seats, lounge seats, recliners, armchairs and other upholstered furniture.
When a spring clip breaks, the end of the spring can come loose from the frame. This may cause the seat to sag, feel uneven, make noise, or lose support. Replacing the broken spring clips can help restore the spring back into its correct position, provided the spring and furniture frame are still in repairable condition.
If you are repairing a broken clip, check both ends of the spring and inspect nearby clips as well. A spring normally needs a clip at each end, so it is common to replace clips in pairs.
How Many Replacement Spring Clips Do You Need?
Our recommended replacement is sold as a 10 pack of individual upholstery zig zag spring clips. As a general guide, one spring usually requires 2 clips, one at each end of the spring. This means a 10 pack can repair up to 5 spring positions if both ends of each spring need new clips.
When replacing old style OKE plastic clips, we generally recommend replacing all of the OKE clips in the affected seating area during the same repair. Once one of the older plastic clips has broken, nearby clips may also be aged, brittle or weakened, even if they have not failed yet.
Replacing only the visibly broken clip may get the spring back into position temporarily, but another old clip can break later and the repair may need to be revisited. Replacing the full set of old style clips at the same time is usually the better approach, as it gives the spring area a more consistent repair and reduces the chance of needing to open the furniture again soon after.
Do It Yourself And Save On Furniture Spring Repairs
Replacing upholstery spring clips can be a manageable DIY repair for handy customers, especially when the furniture frame is accessible and the springs are still in good condition. You may need to remove the dust cover fabric underneath the furniture to access the spring area, then refit or replace the broken clips and secure the spring back into position.
This type of repair is more hands-on than replacing a recliner handle or plugging in a power supply, but it can still be a cost-effective way to bring support back to a sagging seat. With the right replacement clips, basic tools and a careful approach, you can repair the affected spring area yourself and save the cost of a professional furniture repair call-out.

How To Install OKE Plastic Zig Zag Spring Clips
These instructions are for replacing old OKE plastic zig zag spring clips. The same general process can also be used when fitting our recommended replacement individual upholstery zig zag spring clips.
Important: These instructions assume you have already removed any accessories, frame components, dust cover fabric, upholstery fabric or padding needed to expose the spring area.
Safety warning: Zig zag springs can be under strong tension. Take care when removing or refitting the spring ends, as the spring may move suddenly and could cause injury.
Pro tip: Before removing anything, take a clear photo of the spring area. This gives you a reference for the original clip positions, spring spacing and spring direction when fitting the replacement clips.
- Carefully remove the metal retaining hook end of the spring from the old plastic insert by guiding or forcing the spring hook toward the exit point of the clip. Take care, as the spring may be under strong tension.
- Remove the screws, nails or staples securing the old spring clip to the timber frame rail.
- Place the replacement spring clip directly in the same position as the original spring clip. If replacing an old connected OKE clip strip with individual clips, position each new clip to match the original spring spacing and alignment.
- Fasten the replacement spring clip securely to the timber rail using suitable screws, nails or staples. Make sure the clip is firmly fixed before putting the spring back under tension.
- Carefully pull and re-tension the spring hook end back into the replacement spring clip. Take care during this step, as the spring will be under strong tension.
- Check that the spring is seated correctly in the clip and that the clip remains firmly secured to the timber frame.
- Repeat the process for any other old or broken clips being replaced. When replacing old style OKE clips, we generally recommend replacing all old clips in the affected seating area during the same repair.
- Refit any upholstery fabric, padding, dust cover fabric, accessories or frame components that were removed to access the spring area.
Note: When replacing a continuous OKE plastic clip strip with the newer individual spring clips, the new clips do not need to be connected together. Fit each clip separately in the correct position for each spring end.
