Description

Leather Binder for Strengthening Worn & Cracked Leather

Leather Binder is an essential preparation product used to repair worn, cracked, and weakened leather and vinyl surfaces. Designed to penetrate deep into the surface, it works by binding and reinforcing loose fibres to restore strength and stability before further repair steps are carried out.

This thin, water-based formula not only strengthens the leather and vinyl but can also assist in filling very fine micro cracks. For deeper cracks, splits or more significant damage, this product should be followed with a suitable leather filler. Supplied with a touch up sponge, it is easy to apply and perfectly suited for DIY repairs.

Do It Yourself and Achieve Professional Results

Leather Binder is designed with DIY users in mind. No prior experience is required, and the application process is simple with just the included sponge and a hair dryer.

By following our step-by-step guides and video tutorials, you can repair and restore your leather yourself, saving money on professional services. Take control of your repair, extend the life of your furniture, and enjoy the satisfaction of a job well done.

Available Sizes and Coverage Guide

Leather Binder is available in two sizes, both supplied with a touch up sponge for easy application:
125ml: Suitable for 1 standard chair seat and a pair of armrests, or 2 standard chair seats
250ml: Suitable for 2 standard chair seats and 2 pairs of armrests, or up to 3 standard seats and a pair of armrests

Choosing the right size depends on the extent of the worn or damaged areas. If you are working on multiple pieces or larger lounge suites, consider the larger size for better value and convenience.

How To Tutorial

How To Tutorial

  1. Prepare the Surface
Clean the leather thoroughly using Sofa Rehab Prep Wash to remove dirt, oils and old coatings. Once dry, lightly sand the repair area with sand paper to remove loose fibres and smooth the surface. Proper preparation ensures the binder can penetrate and bond effectively.
  2. Apply the Leather Binder
Using the included touch up sponge, apply the binder by stippling it onto the damaged area. Press firmly to work the binder into the leather fibres and into any cracks or worn areas to create a strong bond.
  3. Build Up Coats
Allow the first coat to dry before applying the next. We recommend applying at least 2 coats for best results, ensuring the leather is properly strengthened.
  4. Dry Between Coats
Let each coat dry fully before continuing. Drying can be done at room temperature, however using a hair dryer is preferred to speed up the process and improve absorption between coats.
  5. Proceed With Repair
Leather Binder is not a finished product. After application, follow with a suitable filler such as Essentials Leather Crack Filler or Leather & Vinyl Paste for deeper cracks. Once repaired, apply colourant and sealer to complete the restoration.
  6. Important Step for Crack Repairs
Always apply Leather Binder before using Essentials Leather Crack Filler, as it helps secure weakened fibres and prevents cracks from continuing to split during and after the repair.

FAQs

FAQs

What is Leather Binder used for?

Leather Binder is used to strengthen worn, cracked or weakened leather and vinyl before applying filler and colourant. It penetrates into the leather fibres to stabilise the surface and helps ensure your repair lasts longer.

Can Leather Binder be used on leather and vinyl?

Leather Binder is designed for use on genuine leather surfaces where the fibres need strengthening. It is not suitable for use on vinyl, as vinyl does not have the same fibre structure for the binder to penetrate and bond with.

Do I need to use Leather Binder before applying filler?

Yes, it is strongly recommended. Leather Binder helps secure weakened leather fibres and prevents cracks from continuing to split. This is especially important before applying Essentials Leather Crack Filler to ensure a durable repair.

Can Leather Binder fill cracks on its own?

Leather Binder can help with very fine micro cracks, but it is not a substitute for filler. Deeper cracks, splits or holes will require a suitable leather filler after the binder has been applied.

Is Leather Binder a finished product?

No, Leather Binder is a preparation product. After applying it, you will need to use a filler (if required), followed by a colourant and sealer to complete the repair and restore the appearance of the leather.

First time dealing with this company. The replacement part was well priced, does the job perfectly and arrived without fuss in what I would consider to be short time given current delivery issues in general. No hesitation to give this company further business if the need arises.
